Sound for Yourself

Kym Critchell

Graduated in September 2022 from Paul Valéry University – Montpellier 3

Certified in July 2023 by the International Academy of Neurological Music Therapy.

I am a clinical music therapist, neuro-music therapist, and healthcare professional. I have proven musical skills acquired at the Conservatory (recorder) and through specialized training (children’s and youth choir director, and body percussionist). I also have specific knowledge in psychology, psychiatry, psychopathology, neurology, neuropsychology, and the neurophysiology of music, acquired during my university studies. This qualification is recognized by the French National Directory of Professional Certifications (RNCP), meaning it is state-recognized.

The neuro-music therapist certification is recognized internationally by the World Federation for Neurorehabilitation.

I am affiliated with the French Federation of Music Therapists.

What is music therapy ?

According to the definition of the French Federation of Music Therapists,

“Music therapy is a practice of care, support, guidance, or rehabilitation, using sound and music, in all their forms, as a means of expression, communication, structuring, and analyzing relationships. Within an appropriate framework, it is aimed at individuals experiencing suffering or difficulties related to psychological, sensory, physical, or neurological disorders, or those facing psychosocial or developmental challenges. It is based on the close links between the constituent elements of music, the individual’s history, and the interactions between the person(s) and the music therapist.”

The help and company of good friends, the rediscovery of old pleasures, the support of my family, being useful to others, feeling part of the community – of old pleasures, these are all essential factors in my recovery.
